This archival, limited-edition, fine-art pigment print depicts the 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7

The RS 2.7 was a homologation special of the 911. 500 of these faster, lighter 911s were made to satisfy racing rules. The 2.4-liter engine from the 911S was bored out to 2.7 liters. The car was made from thinner steel, used thinner glass, and made use of fiberglass components to lighten the car significantly. It had a ducktail spoiler to reduce lift. It rocketed to 60 mph in 5.8 seconds. It was basically a race car for the road.

Porsche was initially skeptical of its ability to sell 500 stripped-out, lightweight 911s but the first run of 500 sold out quickly. (The car was initially cheaper than the better-equipped 911S.) In the end 1,580 unites were built.

Today the RS 2.7 is considered was of the most lively, communicative, enticing, perfect 911s ever built. As Jerry Seinfeld once said of his own RS 2.7, ”It’s is a dead-guy car. I bought it from a dead guy. And it’s not getting sold until I’m dead.”
